WiFi technology utilised for smartphone-controlled thermostat

Wireless Internet Connectivity for Embedded Devices (WICED), WiFi technology from Boradcom, has been selected by Netatmo for it’s smartphone-controlled thermostat. Using the WICED WiFi technology, the thermostat syncs with a free smartphone app which provides users with control of home temperatures.

Adjusting automatically to provide optimal temperatures throughout day and night, the thermostat evaluates user habits, including sleep patterns. Widely compatible, the thermostat can be used with fuel, gas and wood systems and replace most wired and wireless thermostats.

“Our thermostat for smartphone combines simplicity, ecology and technology to create an exceptional, elegant and minimalist design,” said Fred Potter, Founder and CEO, Netatmo. “We selected Broadcom’s WICED technology based on its advanced WiFi capabilities and complete development platform, which simplified the design process resulting in much faster time-to-market.”

“Wireless connectivity is bringing cloud-enabled home monitoring to a wide array of household appliances, greatly enhancing their utility, functionality and extensibility,” said Brian Bedrosian, Senior Director, Wireless Connectivity, Broadcom. “Consumer Electronic makers such as Netatmo rely on the performance and connected features of our WICED platform as a competitive differentiator.”
