Upgrade legacy MCU designs with a $4 prototyping kit

A PSoC 4 prototyping kit, introduced by Cypress Semiconductor, enables embedded system design engineers to upgrade their 8- and 16-bit legacy designs to a 32-bit ARM CPU for just $4. The CY8CKIT-049 Prototyping Kit leverages the powerful 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0 core, programmable analogue and digital peripherals and the CapSense capacitive touch-sensing technology.

Suitable for both prototyping and production, the kit is supplied with the free, easy-to-use PSoC Creator IDE, which features hundreds of example projects speed product development. Cypress has also announced a promotion on select devices in the PSoC 4200 family for just $1, until September 28, 2014. The PSoC 4200 devices feature a 12-bit SAR ADC, two op amps, two comparators, four Timer/Counter/PWM blocks, two serial communication blocks, four PLD-enabled Universal Digital Blocks and a dedicated CapSense block for fast implementation of sleek, reliable touch-sensing user interfaces. Available in 40-QFN, 28-SSOP and 44-QFP packages, the devices provide up to 32kB Flash memory and 4kB of SRAM.

Measuring 3.59×0.95″, the CY8CKIT-049 Prototyping Kit provides access to all of the I/Os on these PSoC 4 devices. This allows fast and simple programming via an on-board bootloader through Cypress’s USB-Serial Bridge Controller with a unique snap-away design. The PSoC Creator IDE offers more than 100 pre-verified, production-ready components that can be dragged and dropped into designs. By simply adding copper tape for conductivity, designers can add CapSense touch-sensing to the CY8CKIT-049 Prototyping Kit without any external components.

The $4 PSoC 4 Prototyping Kit is available now. The $1 PSoC 4 promotion is a limited time offer available on the CG7999AA (40-QFN), CG8000AA (44-TQFP) and CG8001 (28-SSOP).
