With the 2014 release of the Green Hills Compiler, Green Hills Software continues to deliver tools that enable embedded developers to maximise product performance and reliability while minimising development and production cost. This updated release of the automotive software adds support for ARMv8-A 64-bit Cortex-A57 and Cortex-A53 processors.

Green Hills Compiler 2014 also supports a wide range of new processors, including ARM Cortex-A12, Cortex-A17, and newest versions of the Freescale Qorivva MPC57xx series Power Architecture microcontrollers and QorIQ T Series network processors.

Optimisations in the 2014 release extend the company's lead over other compilers in automotive software, as demonstrated by up to 10% improvement compared to latest published EEMBC Automotive benchmarks. According to the company, the Green Hills compiler is the only commercial compiler certified to the stringent IEC 61508 Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 4 and ISO 26262 ASIL D.

There are also several software efficiency improvements included with Green Hills Compiler 2014.These include improved inter-procedural optimisations, improved loop optimisations, and improved CPU-specific optimisations.

Nikola Valerjev, Director of Engineering, Green Hills Software, commented: “As the Internet of Things expands, a premium is placed on tools that enable Things to meet the smallest possible production cost and power budgets. Green Hills Compiler 2014 empowers Thing developers with the industry-best in both software performance and reliability.”

“Green Hills Software continues to be a champion of the embedded software developer, targeting its compiler and toolchain releases to the plethora of design challenges unique to resource-constrained, reliability-critical, and price-sensitive IoT devices,” said Chris Rommel, Executive Vice President, VDC Research. “For 30 years, electronic product developers have depended upon Green Hills Software, and the company steadfastly remains at the forefront of compiler technology year after year.”

Green Hills Compiler 2014 will be available in May for ARM, Power Architecture, x86, MIPS, and ColdFire processor architectures.
