The Thread platform features the company’s new wireless MCU, the JN5179 which is based on the ARM Cortex-M3 CPU, and a 2.4GHz radio (based on IEEE 802.15.4), which supports low power communications protocols including ZigBee 3.0 and Thread.
Zach Shelby, Vice President, Marketing, IoT business, ARM, commented: “With NXP’s Thread Platform running the ARM mbed OS, developers now have a clear route through the complex protocol and software development challenges inherent in IoT applications. Companies involved in the design and specification of IoT products need to forge strong ties with ARM partners such as NXP at the start of every project to ensure an optimised, seamless, secure experience for end users.”
“NXP is committed to delivering successful, convenient IoT solutions to our customers and developer ecosystem,” said Asit Goel, Senior Vice President, secure monitoring and control business line, NXP Semiconductors. “We have a strong portfolio of software and hardware solutions designed to bring secure, seamless connected devices to consumers and our Thread platform provides further interoperability and flexibility to our customers and consumers in our IoT portfolio.”
Samples of the JN5179 MCU are available now. Full evaluation kits for the JN5179 mbed modules will be available early next year.
