A ready-to-use starter kit, designated the MSC C6-SK-8S-T6T2, has been launched by MSC Technologies for the instant operation and evaluation of its MSC C6B-8S COM Express Type 6 module family. The starter kit contains a COM Express Type 6 baseboard, a heat sink with fan and two 4GB DDR3L SO-DIMM memory modules. Designers are free to choose any COM Express module from MSC Technologies’ MSC C6B-8S product family.

The universal COM Express Type 6 compact carrier board provides the interface infrastructure for Type 6 modules while offering various PC-type connectors for external access: PCI Express™ x4 slot, LPC bus on 10-pin header, 4x SATA connectors, 4x USB 3.0 interfaces (compliant with USB 2.0), a Gigabit Ethernet connector, VGA and DVI connectors, 3x DisplayPort and 3x HDMI connectors as well as a 40-pin Embedded DisplayPort connector. In addition, a feature connector carries SMBus, I2C bus, power and reset button, beeper, HD LED and other system signals. A 4-pin fan connector is directly usable to drive and control the fan on the heat sink provided with the starter kit.

The starter kit can optionally be accompanied by an Embedded Display Port (eDP) Display Kit consisting of a 13.3" TFT display in HD resolution (WUXGA, 1920 x 1080) with eDP connection technology and LED backlight, and a suitable eDP cable. MSC Technologies’ high-end MSC C6B-8S COM Express™ Type 6 module family offers highest computing and graphics performance.

The modules integrate a 4th generation Intel® Core™ processor (code name “Haswell”) and are available in different performance and pricing classes. The most powerful MSC C6B-8S module is based on the Intel® 8-Series platform controller hub (PCH) QM87 and the Intel® Core™ i7-4700EQ quad-core processor with 6MB L3 cache. The processor is clocked with 2.4GHz or 3.4GHz in the turbo boost mode. The thermal design power (TDP) is 47W or 37W. The processor supports the Intel® AMT 9.0 Technology, Intel® 64, the Intel® Virtualization Technology, VT-d Virtualized I/O and Intel‘s Trusted Execution Technology. The Intel® Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) 2.0 Technology allows for high-end imaging applications.
