ELPEGUARD UV Twin-Cure DSL 1707 NV-FLZ silicone-based coating combines the advantages of very fast UV curing with the outstanding final properties of silicone.

"The silicone structure of the thick-film coating ensures a high long-term temperature resistance of approx. 180°C. It is characterised by almost constant elasticity down to a temperature of -40°C," reports Stefan Schröder. The Global Product Manager Conformal Coating refers to long-term tests carried out in the climate laboratory of the headquarters located in the Lower Rhine region where the Peters Research R&D team is based.

As the only full range supplier of coatings materials for the electronics industry worldwide, Peters understood the need for a high performance, high speed conformal coating to meet the demanding requirements of today’s manufacturers. Peters turned to their partner Novagard Solutions to develop and manufacture this innovative silicone material. The resulting product reflects the commitment to quality of two established brands: Peters and Novagard. ELPGUARD UV Twin-Cure DSL 1707 NV-FLZ is a testament to the growing cooperation with Novagard in the field of silicone-based coating materials for printed circuit boards.

Usable over the entire surface of assembled PCBs

"Our ELPEGUARD UV Twin-Cure DSL 1707 NV-FLZ can also be sprayed and is suitable for coating large areas," says Stefan Schröder when describing the newcomer. According to the graduate engineer, assembled PCBs can therefore be coated thinly and yet durably using the spray process. This is a new feature of this product range. The already familiar ELPEGUARD UV Twin-Cure DSL 1707 FLZ coating system can only be processed using a dispenser.

Sustainability is ensured by the fact that the thick-film coating does not release any solvent emissions when processed. In terms of costs, the dual curing mechanism of the Twin-Cure® systems shortens process times, thus saving time. What is sustainable is that the coating can be repaired easily. Stefan Schröder: "This ensures that it can be recycled." The new silicone conformal coating is particularly suitable for high-temperature applications. Stefan Schröder: "The silicone remains permanently elastic and also allows higher selective layer thicknesses without compromising on quality and properties."

Durable, robust, temperature-resistant

The bottom line is that ELPEGUARD UV Twin-Cure DSL 1707 NV-FLZ combines three advantages in one coating system: Chemical resistance, physical robustness and, as a highlight, permanent temperature resistance.

"Ensuring climatic resistance and flammability ratings for our customers’ specifications were key goals when developing this new product,” says Stefan Schröder. It was certified UL 746E after a series of tests proved. The coating withstands sudden electric shocks and retains its dielectric integrity, resulting in an optimum protection of the coated assembly.

By the development of the thick-film coating ELPEGUARD UV Twin-Cure DSL 1707 NV-FLZ, the Peters Group, in partnership with Novagard Solutions Inc., is underlining its leading global market position in the field of high-tech coatings for electronics in the manufacture of printed circuit boards and the protection of assemblies and electronic components, through to integrated solutions for coating technology. "This now also applies to silicone-based coating materials from our company. We would like to thank Novagard for their innovation and dedication. Together, we have provided the electronics manufacturing industry with a great product," says Peters CEO Ralf Schwartz.
