A tutorial book that supports application development using FreeRTOS on the Renesas RX600 family of microcontrollers will be unveiled at Embedded World. The concise, step by step guide takes a 'hands on' approach and describes both general multitasking concepts and FreeRTOS specifics.
Richard Barry, founder of FreeRTOS, developed the book to ensure new FreeRTOS users have a rapid path to understanding how to use the open source kernel on the RX600 microcontroller with the minimum of effort.

The book is the latest in the already popular FreeRTOS tutorial range -available via http://bit.ly/ihoUi9 and http://bit.ly/9GGej3.

Called Using the FreeRTOS Real Time Kernel, a Practical Guide - Renesas RX600 Edition, the book is available in both electronic and paperback form.

The text is accompanied by 18 source code example projects that, by default, target the RX62N microcontroller. In addition, the standard FreeRTOS download contains an example project that includes a simple, small, embedded web server running on an RX62N.

FreeRTOS is one of the most popular and robust embedded operating systems, and has been downloaded more than 150,000 times in the last two years.

The book can be purchased directly from the FreeRTOS website and Richard Barry said: FreeRTOS was founded with the goal of making it easy to develop professional low cost applications. Demand for support on Renesas MCUs was very strong and this will help engineers reach their goal quickly.

David Noverraz, tools marketing manager at Renesas Electronics Corporation commented: I am very impressed by the FreeRTOS book for the RX family. It's an excellent kick-start for anyone wanting to bring a new project to market quickly
