Remote I/O kit reduces smart factory steps by 60%

A complete hardware and software reference solution for the development of remote I/O devices has been released by Renesas Electronics. The Remote I/O Trial Kit is suitable for devices typically used for I/O monitoring, communication and industrial process control.

The company estimates that the kit can reduce the development steps required for a smart factory, from the start of product development through the design prototype completion, by approximately over 60%.

Within a smart factory, more of the I/O points need improved performance and more deterministic communication capabilities. Although these ethernet standards enable a network to have high-speed, real-time connectivity, they require a large number of development and evaluation operations. These lead to increases in the time and costs associated with the development of a new user product. The Remote I/O Trial Kit is designed to reduce development steps, which consist of hardware design, software design, and approval acquisition.

The kit includes a remote I/O module, remote I/O application and EtherCAT communication processing, an ESI file for EtherCAT communication, documentation (application note) and circuit diagrams (OrCAD data, layout pdf).
