Reference design supports tactical radio application

A new reference design from Wolfspeed is now being supported by distributor Richardson RFPD.

The CGHV1F025S-AMP4 reference design is a balanced amplifier that combines two unmatched surface mount transistors to provide over 50 W of power from 4.4 to 5.0 GHz.

The design goal was to create an application circuit for tactical radio capable of operating under a constant amplitude signal such as offset QPSK (OQPSK).

It utilises the CGHV1F025S, a 25 W RF power transistor housed in a plastic package DFN package for surface mount applications.

Breakout paths are available on the board to operate a single device for applications requiring lower output power.

With measured EVM less than 3% under 6.0dB PAPR OQPSK signal, the design meets harsh linearity requirements for troposcatter tactical radio.

It is also suitable for satellite communications (SatCom) and radio links applications.

The CGHV1F025S-AMP4 documentation includes a dxf file, PCB, schematic drawing and assembly drawing.

A license-free copy of the files is available from Richardson RFPD.
