With a guaranteed availability of three years and a strict lifecycle management and change process, the D3222-B is an attractive choice for semi-industrial applications. In addition to manufacturers of desktop PCs, it is aimed at manufacturers with high research & development and certification costs. Due to the fact that all the boards are developed and manufactured at Fujitsu’s own plant in Augsburg (Germany), Fujitsu Technology Solutions are able to provide best-in-class logistics and support to regional customers for both the Classic Desktop and Extended Lifecycle Series. The close integration of design and manufacturing processes at Fujitsu’s mainboard factory in Augsburg and the resulting high quality of products was recently recognised with a Technology Leadership Award from Mentor Graphics.
The extended-lifecycle D3222-B μATX with its LGA1150 socket supports DDR3 1600 SDRAM memory and 4th-generation Intel Core processors. Its four DIMM sockets can be equipped with up to 32 GB of single-/dual-channel DDR3-1333 (CL9) and DDR3-1600 (CL11) SDRAM. The board’s connection and extension options include PCI Express Gen3, multichannel audio and Intel GbE LAN onboard, four USB2.0 and two USB3.0 ports, and an onboard USB socket for a stick or dongle. Furthermore, the D3222-B has six Serial ATAIII 600 interfaces for connections with up to 6 GBit/s. An optional second DisplayPort display can be connected using a specific PCIe Extension card. In general, every mainboard of the D322x-B series supports up to 3 digital displays.
The D3222-B supports a large number of security and system management features enhancing system reliability, which is particularly crucial in 24/7 continuous operation. Based on Intel iAMT 9 & vPro capability, the D3222-B offers extended remote manageability functionalities. Thanks to their technology partnership with American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a global leader in BIOS and remote management solutions, Fujitsu Technology Solutions can supply the D3222-B with a comprehensive suite of system management tools from AMI’s MegaRAC XMS Manageability Framework. This includes out-of-band manageability, which means it is possible to access and administer the system even when the operating system is switched off, in stand-by, or experiencing a malfunction. Further onboard features include the Trusted Platform Module V1.2 (Infineon) and a three-level HW Watchdog guaranteeing reliable unstaffed operation at the pre-boot, boot, and OS levels.
Several special features are included on both the Extended Lifecycle board D3222-B as well as the Classic Desktop boards D3220-B and D3221-B. These include Recovery BIOS for restoring a corrupted BIOS and an HDD password, which prohibits unauthorised access to disk drives. Silent Fan is a tool that supervises and controls the performance of fans in relation to the current system temperature, while Silent Drives serves to reduce the noise created by optical and hard disk drives. The result is a smoother positioning of the HDD head, which also increases its life expectancy.
