Kontron today announced the integration of the new Intel Core i7 processor across many of the company's popular embedded platforms including AdvancedMC, CompactPCI, COM Express and VPX. As a leader in standards-based and custom embedded solutions, Kontron's complete portfolio of Intel Core i7-based platforms is designed to reduce system development time and provide high reliability and long product life resulting in a lower total cost of ownership. The new platforms from Kontron give OEMs access to leading-edge technologies that will help in their development of a broad range of compute and graphic-intensive applications in the communications, military, aerospace, medical, industrial and infotainment markets.
The new Kontron platforms capitalize on the intelligent, feature-rich Intel Core i7 processor architecture enabling OEM customers to minimize system development costs, offer amazing new system design flexibility options and provide features to manage what were previously challenging multiple requirements in terms of performance, power, graphics, memory, software compatibility, security and upgrade path migration. Utilizing the 32 nanometer manufacturing process for exceptional performance per watt, lower power consumption and heat dissipation, Kontron's new Intel Core i7 processor based platforms employ a more efficient two-chip solution that provides better signal integrity and minimizes board space enabling higher performance in smaller, power-constrained portable designs.

For visually demanding military, medical, security/surveillance and infotainment applications, the new Kontron platforms will also deliver significantly enhanced integrated graphics capabilities and data flow performance via the integrated Intel QM57 Express chipset and advanced display interfaces helping OEMs to design these features faster and across more products. In addition, applications can now support multiple graphical and multimedia functions including separate ports for SDVO and PEG. Telecom, Netcom and military system design flexibility is increased with an integrated error-correcting code (ECC) memory controller to match high data integrity requirements. Design flexibility is further improved with additional I/O and PCI Express configuration options. Furthermore, long embedded system life requirements are supported with an extended seven-year lifecycle.

Kontron continues to offer its customers the latest technologies in a comprehensive range of proven solutions, which provide increased options for OEMs in the development and differentiation of their product lines while minimizing engineering costs and shortening their time to market. Intel touts this as the highest performance processor architecture in the industry offering significant overall performance and graphics performance improvements to capably support complex and intensive computing environments, says Dirk Finstel, CTO of Kontron AG. In addition to the breakthrough performance for demanding applications, the new platforms from Kontron provide a seamless upgrade path enabling more solutions that can benefit from the improved performance per watt, enhanced graphics, data integrity and design flexibility features inherent in this next-generation processor technology.

Kontron has already introduced its Kontron VX6060 VPX computing blade and the Kontron AM4020 AdvancedMC processor board. The Kontron VX6060 delivers substantially increased computing power and reduced heat dissipation for parallel data and signal processing applications, while the Kontron AM4020 is the market's most powerful single-width AdvancedMC processor module, in an extremely small footprint. The company will continue to launch specific AdvancedMC, CompactPCI and COM Express products designed with Intel Core i7 processor technology throughout 2010.
