Embedded and Commercial Channel Support Geared up for First AMD Fusion Family of APUs

AMD announced a strong lineup of motherboard products for AMD's 2011 low-power mobile platform (code-named Brazos) and the AMD Embedded G-Series platform for embedded systems (code-named eBrazos), both based on the first AMD Fusion Accelerated Processing Units (APUs). The 2011 low-power mobile platforms feature the new 18-watt AMD E-Series APU (code-named Zacate) or the 9-watt AMD C-Series APU (code-named Ontario).
AMD is ushering in a new era of embedded and personal computing, and our industry partners are ready to take advantage of the first-ever AMD Fusion APU, said Chris Cloran, Corporate VP and GM, Computing Solutions Group, Client Division, AMD. By combining the processing of the CPU with the GPU on a single energy-efficient chip, we believe their customers can take advantage of better price/performance, superior 1080p HD playback, and small form factors for innovative designs.



Infrastructure partners

Numerous motherboard designs based on the AMD E-Series APU are planned for retail channels and system builders from leading original design manufacturers (ODMs), including ASUS, GIGABYTE, MSI, and SAPPHIRE. Additional motherboard designs based on the AMD Embedded G-Series platform for embedded systems are scheduled for Q1 2011 availability, enabling the next generation of embedded computing devices to be used in a host of areas, ranging from digital signage and medical imaging to casino gaming machines and point-of-sale kiosks.



EMEA embedded computing vendors such as CompuLab, congatec, Fujitsu, Kontron, and Quixant are ready to adopt the 2011 AMD Fusion family of APUs.



CompuLab selected the AMD Embedded G-Series platform as the basis for its next-generation fit-PC3, said Irad Stavi, Director of Business Development at CompuLab. The AMD G-Series APU combines a dual-core x86 CPU, outstanding visual performance, and low power on a single die for the very first time. CompuLab's fit-PC3 design adds durability and versatility in a miniature fanless casing. The result is a new kind of computing platform that integrators working in many embedded market segments will find attractive.



We expect AMD's Fusion technology to be a great success in our computer-on-modules in every area of embedded computing technology, explained Gerhard Edi, CEO at congatec AG. Our customers will get a huge range of performance on a single platform. That makes designing the system to meet the demands of customer-specific applications particularly easy.



A comprehensive feature set and outstanding graphic performance combined with very low power consumption and embedded longevity make the AMD G-Series perfect for a multitude of applications. That's why Fujitsu decided to offer several industrial Mini-ITX mainboards and thin-client systems based on the innovative platform. Being designed and produced in Germany, our industrial mainboards are likely to gain excellent acceptance in all vertical markets, predicted Peter Hoser, Director of OEM Sales at Fujitsu Technology Solutions.



The AMD G-Series platform is ideal for embedded applications that require genuine high-end graphics, said Norbert Hauser, Vice President at Kontron AG. Besides the kiosk market and professional gaming, we can also envisage applications in such fields as radar, sonar, and image recognition in a range of vertical markets. This is an area where the built-in GPU will result in considerable cost savings as opposed to comparable performance using a number of multicore processors. And what's more, the form factor is ideal for SFF designs. That's why we're going to round out our product portfolio with suitable AMD Embedded G-Series platforms in the motherboard and the SBC sectors (Mini-ITX and Pico-ITX) as well as for our computer-on-modules, such as COM Express.
