Cypress Semiconductor reveal that SKNET Corporation has selected Cypress’s EZ-USB FX3 USB 3.0 peripheral controller for its MonsterX U3.0R external video capture system. The FX3 solution provides the MonsterX U3.0R with USB 3.0 bandwidth of 5 Gbps, which enables it to capture HD video without requiring compression that degrades image quality. This functionality allows end-users to capture and play back sharp, uncompressed HD video from various sources, including set-top boxes, media players, HD cameras, and gaming consoles.
##IMAGE_1_R## is the industry’s only programmable, one-chip USB 3.0 peripheral controller. It is equipped with a highly configurable General Programmable Interface, which can be programmed in 8-, 16- and 32-bit configurations with data rates as high as 400 Megabytes per second. GPIF II enables FX3 to interface directly with nearly any processor, ASIC or FPGA.

“The top performance and flexibility of Cypress’s FX3 solution helped us to meet our design requirement for uncompromised HD video quality and develop the MonsterX U3.0R with relative ease,” said Seno Kanuru, president of SKNET Corporation. “With the MonsterX U3.0R, for the first time, we can deliver full-quality HD video to laptop computers, thus tapping into a new market segment.”

“The demand for high-definition video applications is a key market driver for USB 3.0, and our FX3 solution is ideally suited for this space,” said Mark Fu, Senior Director of Cypress’s SuperSpeed USB Business Unit. “SKNET’s MonsterX U3.0R breaks new ground in capturing HD-quality video from a wide range of sources and allowing consumers to watch anywhere they want to take their laptop. We are pleased to see FX3’s programmability and flexibility help accelerate our customers’ time to market, while also facilitating product miniaturization as a one-chip solution.”
