Certification enables increased transceiver use in smart metering

The SX1272 development kit, from Semtech, has received Wi-SUN Alliance certification. The certification paves the way for increased use of the Semtech LoRa-based SX1272 transceiver in energy management and smart metering applications.  The Wi-SUN Alliance is an association of companies working together to enable reliable, cost-effective, low-power wireless utility products based on the open global standard, IEEE 802.15.4g.

The Semtech SX1272 development kit, incorporating the SX1272 multi standard, low-power, long range transceiver, successfully passed Wi-SUN Certification for PHY profile based upon test specifications of the Wi-SUN Alliance. The development kit also passed PHY interoperability tests based upon products from multiple vendors. In addition, the Semtech solution obtained certification for EchoNet-Lite PHY profile.

“We are delighted to receive this certification from Wi-SUN,” said Alain Dantec, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Wireless, Sensing and Timing Product Group at Semtech, “Wi-SUN is playing a key role in our industry, making certain our customers will get reliable and interoperable products from suppliers. With this certification, Semtech extends its position as the high performance, long-range transceiver leader enabling customers to focus on building next-generation smart metering solutions.”

By selecting the SX1272, AMR equipment vendors, module makers and M2M customers will benefit from a long-range, low power transceiver to be used as the foundation to enable a fully compliant EchoNet lite solution. Wi-SUN profiles enable interoperable, reliable and scalable low power networks for smart utility networks.
