A.R.T releases guide on best soldering practices

Advanced Rework Technology (A.R.T.), an independent provider of IPC-certified and bespoke training services for the electronics assembly sector, has released a new guide outlining best practices for assembling and soldering plated through-hole (PTH) components.

The guide begins by highlighting the advantages of through-hole mounting and emphasises the significance of proper preparation: ‘By concentrating on effective component handling and careful PCB design, manufacturers can greatly reduce the likelihood of defects and the need for rework later in the production process.’ It goes on to explore various common soldering techniques and concludes with a section dedicated to troubleshooting.

“The skills shortage means that basic electronics assembly instruction is necessary more than ever. At A.R.T. we can tailor courses that address the exact needs of companies, and existing skills levels of manufacturing personnel,” said Debbie McDade, A.R.T Managing Director and Master IPC trainer. “These guides – a similar one covering best practice for surface mount devices will shortly be published – are intended to help novices to understand the various different assembly processes, and as a refresher for more experienced operators.”
