Resin protects sensor designed for hazardous locations
The UR5604 polyurethane resin, manufactured by Electrolube, has been chosen for use with a sensor designed for hazardous locations. The sensor's electronics, which are in the form of a PCB, needed to be protected from adverse atmospheric conditions but also meet the requirements of the hazardous location.
PCBs and electronic components can be protected from harsh environments using resins. The resins provide a barrier against moisture, mechanical vibration, thermal or physical shock and general contamination, allowing devices to operate efficiently in harsh environments.
The company needed a resin that could not only met the requirements of the sensor's hazardous location, but also withstand salt mist, contact with chemicals and temperatures frequently dropping below 0°C, but not exceeding 60°C. Therefore, the UR5604 UL approved resin was chosen. When temperature fluctuates, the resins enable minimal stress on the PCB through post-cure flexibility. UL94 V-0, the highest classification of flame retardancy, is provided by the resin.
The UR5604, which is designed for potting and encapsulating, provides low mixed system viscosity for fast and efficient potting. The RoHS compliant (2011/65/EU) resin provides adhesion to a wide variety of substrates and has a cured temperature range of -40 to +130°C.
