VadaTech has today introduced a new 6U ATCA shelf with integrated boards that combine the functionality of switch cards and shelf managers. In a typical Dual Star ATCA chassis, two slots are dedicated for the switches. With VadaTech’s VT830 6-slot ATCA shelf, the Switching Shelf Managers are below the card cage, this frees up those slots to be used as payload slots, providing six slots instead of the usual four.

The 19” rackmount 6U shelf offers redundancy for all Field Replaceable Units. The chassis has a push-pull cooling configuration, providing up to 375W per slot of thermal management.

The VT030 SSMs in the 6U ATCA chassis provide Layer 2 GbE/10GbE and Layer 3 GbE/10GbE/40GbE switching. The Switching Shelf Manager also uses VadaTech internal Scorpionware software which can access information about the current state of the shelf or the carrier. The software also can obtain information such as the FRU population, or monitor alarms, power management, current sensor values, and the overall health of the shelf.

A 40G Layer 3 SSM will be available in the coming months. VadaTech also offers 1G and 10G switches, shelves in other sizes, carriers for AMCs and other form factors, and accessories in the AdvancedTCA architecture. Further, the company provides the full ecosystem of MicroTCA/AMC products.
