Tilera and Qosmos today announced the availability of high-performance integrated solutions for Software-Defined Networks and Network Functions Virtualization, combining TILE-Gx processors with the Qosmos ixEngine software development kit.
The evolution to new network architectures such as Software-Defined Networking and Network Functions Virtualization is accelerating the need for higher performance processing and deep L7 application intelligence. The unique combination of Tilera and Qosmos enables an effortless upgrade of existing networking equipment by adding a low power, high performance services blade or a PCIe form factor delivering high-throughput L4-7 flow inspection.

The solution leverages Tilera’s TILE-Gx processor family with devices ranging from 9 cores up to 72 cores as well as hardware platforms such as the TILEncore-Gx PCI Express card and TILEmpower-Gx 1RU appliance. Scalable options for performance levels are available from 1Gbps for economical gateways to 40Gbps for high end appliances, all utilizing Tilera’s Multicore Development Environment software tool suite with a standards-based Linux and C/C++ programming environment.

Qosmos ixEngine, the most widely deployed DPI engine globally, identifies and extracts information traveling over networks in real time, providing a true picture of the traffic by identifying protocols, types of application, and extracting additional information in the form of metadata.

“The migration to Software Defined Networking places more demanding requirements on classifying flows and then applying complex actions, requiring a highly-programmable and efficient data plane,” said Devesh Garg, President & CEO of Tilera Corporation. “With the combination of TILE-Gx processors and Qosmos software, affordable high-throughput, agile and flexible networking can be implemented in an embedded environment where power and system real-estate are at a premium.”

The emerging Network Functions Virtualization concept pushes networking and security workloads to standard server hardware. In those workloads, L4-7 traffic processing needs are dramatically increasing across a range of applications such as load balancing, cyber security, traffic management, VXLAN classification, user based QoE, service-aware networking and more. The TILE-Gx PCIe card running Qosmos ixEngine accelerates virtual functions using programmable flow classification in standard servers.

“Qosmos ixEngine is the de facto industry-standard software engine for DPI and L7 application intelligence in telecoms, cloud and SDN architectures,” said Thibaut Bechetoille, CEO at Qosmos. “We are impressed by the efficient performance, throughput and scalability of the TILE-Gx family. This solution which achieves 40Gbps of DPI on a single processor is truly remarkable.”
