Spirent Communications today announced the industry’s first holistic test methodology to validate the performance, availability, security and scalability (PASS) of cloud computing. The Spirent PASS methodology includes both physical and virtual appliances specifically designed to test services and infrastructure between any points in the cloud environment.
“In an IDC survey, more than 80 percent of enterprises cite security, availability and performance as challenges of the cloud computing model,” said Lucinda Borovick, vice president of Enterprise Communications Infrastructure, IDC. “This is not surprising because failure of any one of these attributes can account for millions of dollars in lost opportunity costs. Spirent’s cloud computing testing approach enables CIOs to have the network visibility required to ensure the quality of experience as well as validating the use of this new computing environment.”

Spirent’s cloud computing testing methodology validates the Quality of Service (QoS) of cloud infrastructures as well as the Quality of Experience (QoE) across cloud services. Spirent leverages market leading test solutions that are built on the integrated Spirent TestCenter™ platform allowing enterprises and service providers to test PASS.

“Spirent continues to lead the way in developing test methodologies that put emerging technologies and their promises to the test,” said Tim Jefferson, general manager networks and applications Group at Spirent Communications. “Our PASS testing approach is an extension of our converged data center and virtualization test solutions. Testing is how CIOs will truly realize the promise of cloud computing.”
