For quick and easy remote control or monitoring using a mobile phone, the PROTEXT module from RF Solutions is a complete GSM-controlled switch with two contact-switch inputs and two SPDT relay outputs. The module is packaged in a compact, waterproof enclosure rated to IP68 and featuring two mounting holes for easy attachment to a housing, wall or bulkhead. The unit is also configured using SMS messages, thereby saving the need to set-up the module with a PC.

In operation, PROTEXT can receive SMS commands to activate either of the two relay outputs, or will send an SMS warning if either of its two inputs changes state. Up to five telephone numbers can be stored for each input, to receive warning messages. The inputs can be used to detect changes such as opening or closing of a door or window, the status of industrial equipment, or events such as reaching of a minimum or maximum fluid level.

By sending a pre-defined text string containing the controller’s assigned password and the instruction to open or close either of its outputs, the PROTEXT’s two relays can be controlled from anywhere on the GSM network, including nationally or internationally. The relays are rated for mains applications, and can be used in home automation such as activating lights or powered gates, as well as professional environments such as managing industrial plant or irrigation systems.

The PROTEXT module accepts all major 3V SIM cards and operates from a 12V or 24V DC power supply. To protect against tampering, a text message is automatically issued to up to five stored mobile numbers if power is removed from the unit after set-up.
