Renesas Technology announced today that it has become a member of the EtherCAT Technology Group, an engineering forum whose aim is to advance the EtherCAT network standard by encouraging its adoption and managing specification development. Originally introduced by Beckhoff, EtherCAT is an Ethernet-based fieldbus standard specifically designed for real-time industrial control and automation applications. It overcomes the process cycle time limitations of Ethernet by processing the frames on the fly rather than interpreting, copying and processing data at each connection.
By joining this group Renesas Technology will have the opportunity to work at the forefront of one of the leading real-time Ethernet standards allowing them to participate in working groups and, along with other members, have an influence on the future enhancements of the EtherCAT technology specifications. “We are very pleased to become a member of the EtherCAT Technology Group. This marks a significant step in supporting both our customers needs for today and into the future.” said Robert Kalman, marketing engineer Renesas Technology Europe.

As the world leader in solutions for the industrial inverter market Renesas brings significant expertise and semiconductor know-how to the group, helping to ensure that the EtherCAT protocol is supported in a cost effective and timely manner. “We are happy that Renesas is considering to add EtherCAT functionality to their product portfolio. Renesas’ involvement in the EtherCAT Technology Group will further strengthen EtherCATs position as the leading industrial Ethernet solution for motion control - and beyond ” Said Martin Rostan, Executive Director of ETG
