Qualcomm given green light as Mercedes tech partner

Qualcomm has announced that it has entered a multi-year agreement with the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team to become an official technology partner. The two companies will collaborate to develop connected car technologies to enhance the team’s on-track performance, utilising Qualcomm’s expertise in mobile as the foundation for development.

Together, Qualcomm and Mercedes will focus on improving overall race speed and vehicle reliability, as well as operational and power efficiencies. Current and future technology projects will target real-time data transmission, sensor networks and wireless charging integration. Qualcomm branding will be featured on the nose of the F1 W06 Hybrid race car, the racesuit sleeves of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, and on Mercedes AMG Petronas team clothing.

Currently, Qualcomm is involved in more than 40 initiatives with automakers and suppliers to develop technologies for improved connectivity, safety, navigation, infotainment. Qualcomm's Halo technology enables wireless EV charging.
