NCT3016Y provides deep S5 and S3 power saving modes and smart ASIC timer function. Users can schedule deep mode ON/OFF time via motherboard BIOS settings. The power saving can be more effective and flexible. With the feature, it benefits consumers by saving money plus environment protection. NCT3016Y also supports SMBus TM interface for internal registers programming for the flexibility. Therefore, motherboard designers do not need to significantly modify original power delivery circuits for different chipset platforms. The power saving function can be implement ed easily by using NCT3016Y. Total application circuits BOM is very simple. NCT3016Y eases the RD design efforts, reduces the quantities of discrete components, saves the PCB board size space and simplifies the SMT process .

According to European ErP (Energy-related Products) regulation, all electronic household and office equipment selling in Europe must meet the eco-design requirement after 2010. The first stage of standby power is less or equal to 1.0Watt in CY2010. In CY2013, the standby power restricts to less or equal to 0.5Watt. Such requirement does make a big challenge to motherboard power designers.
