Broadcom have announced that their BCM97428GN reference design has been assigned MoCA 2.0 Golden Node (GN) Certification. The reference design, based on the BCM7428 IP high definition (HD) set-top box (STB) platform, has achieved a MoCA 2.0 Golden Node which is the reference unit to which all MoCA 2.0 products are tested and certified by the Multimedia over Coax Alliance. The MoCA 2.0 standard is the next generation in home connectivity for multi-media over coax, which effectively doubles achievable data rates and facilitates additional high-definition streams throughout the home.

By integrating MoCA 2.0 directly into its set-top box SoC offerings, Broadcom's comprehensive portfolio of twenty-one HD STB and IP gateway solutions realize the home entertainment network benefits of the standard, including double the video bandwidth, increased security and lower power. Broadcom Golden Nodes for MoCA 1.1 Band D, and MoCA 1.1 Band E are part of the official MoCA test beds and the BCM97428GN is now a Golden Node in the newly developed test bed for MoCA 2.0.

"Broadcom's Golden Node certification is both a demonstration of its continued leadership in MoCA technology and a commitment to next-generation benefits and features," commented MoCA President Charles Cerino. "This is a key step toward certification of MoCA 2.0 products."

Improved packet error rate is also supported by MoCA 2.0, which enables higher quality of service (QoS) levels for operators and the effective utilization of higher numbers of tuner/demodulators integrated into next generation STB and gateway devices. MoCA 2.0 provides complete interoperability with MoCA 1.0 and 1.1 while also providing full performance with MoCA 2.0 nodes.

"MoCA 2.0 Golden Node certification demonstrates Broadcom's leadership in next-generation MoCA technology and enables a fast path for product certification for all Broadcom MoCA 2.0-enabled devices," said John Gleiter, Broadcom Vice President of Set-Top Box Marketing. "Broadcom's current portfolio of twenty-one MoCA 2.0 enabled devices will allow manufacturers to rapidly design and deploy next generation performance and feature-optimized products for the next generation entertainment networks in the connected home."

All of Broadcom's MoCA 2.0-enabled devices are available: BCM3322, BCM3325, BCM3332, BCM3335, BCM3385, BCM4562, BCM6802, BCM6803, BCM7145, BCM7364, BCM7366, BCM7399, BCM7422, BCM7425, BCM7428, BCM7429, BCM7430, BCM7435, BCM7438, BCM7439, and BCM7445. Golden Node units are available for purchase by all MoCA members.
