Maxim has introduced the MAX3799, a single-chip VCSEL driver and dual-path limiting-amplifier solution targeted at SFP+ Ethernet and Fibre Channel applications. Fabricated using Maxim's MBiC3 IC technology, this device delivers up to 14Gbps performance, a wide range of programmable receiver and transmitter features, and only 320mW of power consumption. Packing the functions of two chips into one, the MAX3799 provides a low-cost, low-power solution optimized for Ethernet 1000BASE-SR/10GBASE-SR and 2x/4x/8x/16x Fibre Channel transmission systems, thus simplifying transceiver BOM for module manufacturers.
A 3-wire digital interface provides a wide range of programmable features to optimize performance. Programmable receive functions include data rate, LOS threshold, LOS squelch, LOS polarity, CML output level, signal-path polarity, slew-rate control, deemphasis, and mode-select change time. Programmable transmit functions include modulation current, bias current, polarity, deemphasis, eye-crossing adjustment, and eye safety control.

The MAX3799 is fully specified for operation over the -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius extended temperature range, and is available in a 5mm x 5mm, 32-pin TQFN package.
