Maxim introduced the MAX14840E/MAX14841E, high-speed (40Mbps), half-duplex RS-485 transceivers for industrial applications with long cable runs. The MAX14840E features symmetrical fail-safe receiver inputs and high (170mV) receiver hysteresis to improve noise rejection and signal recovery in high-speed and long-cable applications.
The MAX14841E has true fail-safe receiver inputs that guarantee a logic-high receiver output when inputs are shorted or open. These features, combined with the robustness of the transceivers, make the MAX14840E/MAX14841E ideal for harsh motor-control environments.

The MAX14840E/MAX14841E operate from a low supply voltage (3.3V), feature the industry's most robust ESD structures (±35kV, Human Body Model), and are fully specified over the -40 degrees Celsius to +125 degrees Celsius automotive temperature range. Both devices are available in standard 8-pin SO and space-saving (3mm x 3mm), 8-pin TDFN packages. Prices start at $1.49 (1000-up, FOB USA).
