Each iM880A-L module has an integrated power amplifier that delivers +19 dBm into a 50 Ohm antenna. Receiver sensitivity is up to -137 dBm and the use of spread spectrum technology delivers a combination of high efficiency and immunity to interference. The modules allow users to balance range, interference robustness and data rate by providing the ability to configure four error correction options, six orthogonal spreading sequences and a choice of three bandwidths.
A starter kit, the SK-iM880A, allows quick and easy evaluation of module performance under real-world application conditions. LoRaMote, an encapsulated iM880A-L module with integrated sensors, GPS module and antenna, is an option for the kit and a USB stick radio, the iU880A, is also available. This is based on the iM880A-L and features adjustable power output up to +18 dBm.
Freely available software for these radios includes the IBM LoRa MAC C-library and Mote Runner, IBM’s infrastructure platform for wireless sensor networks.
