Innovation inside a PC, inside a mouse

Desktop PCs are predicted to enjoy a resurgence in the coming few years, in favour of tiresome tablet touchscreens and tiny phone interfaces. Heading off the anticipated demand for compact computing, a team of developers from Poland has introduced the Mouse-Box, a combination of two of the most important elements in a PC set – a computer and a mouse.

In the beginning, moving computers was a real challenge. The problem was not just their weight, but also their size, which made them cumbersome, albeit possible to lift. Computer portability has been improving alongside the development of smaller, faster, more powerful PCs. However, it’s not yet at a stage whereby it could be called 'hassle-free', as it is necessary to transport a lot of its parts - a monitor, a keyboard, a CPU and a mouse. The approach to computer design and appearance has been the same until today.

Using mouse box, there is no need to buy several devices to keep computing at hand. Mouse-Box uses the power of a mouse, housing a PC running on a quad-core 1.4GHz ARM CORTEX processor. Precision, comfort and portability are the three most significant features of Mouse-Box, although computing power has not been left by the wayside.

To recharge, Mouse-Box simply needs to rest on its inductive charging mousepad, eliminating the need to keep a cable with it at all times. Wi-Fi b/g/n technology offers connectivity, and a 128GB disk provides storage which can be expanded by incorporating data cloud storage. Connection to a monitor is provided via micro HDMI interface or a wireless image transfer module which is compatible with any monitor equipped with HDMI/VGA/DVI ports.

Mouse-Box does not just represent innovation, it aims to shift the paradigm of personal computing. Its inventors hail it as the computer's next logical evolutionary step, which should have been made a long time ago, refreshing our idea of a PC.

The mouse-box has not yet moved from prototype to production, but to follow progress, please visit mouse-box's website.
