Broadcom has announced that KT Skylife has deployed the world's first Ultra HD STB built on Broadcom's single chip HEVC 4K/Ultra HD satellite solution, the BCM7376. Based on the highly integrated features of the chip, KT Skylife can now deliver Ultra HD content directly to subscribers' homes with the performance and picture quality needed for a truly immersive multi-screen entertainment experience.

Broadcom's single-chip BCM7376 delivers fluid 60fps video with vivid 10-bit colour at 4X the resolution of conventional HD displays, allowing users to view life-like Ultra HD content on multiple devices. The combination of improved picture quality and colour clarity is suitable for live-action viewing such as major sporting events and feature films.

Global shipments of Ultra HD TVs exceeded 12m units in 2014, with the Asia Pacific region accounting for 75%. As Ultra HD TV prices continue to fall, Broadcom's BCM7376 single chip solutions provide OEMs and operators with more options for end-point delivery of 4K content. By leveraging Broadcom's advanced Trellis STB multi-application software framework with secure hardware sandboxing, platforms based on the BCM7376 can facilitate rapid integration of new services through intelligent system partitioning and management.

"Broadcom is committed to providing consumers with the clarity and brilliance of Ultra HD content while making Ultra HD video delivery economics work for service providers," said Rich Nelson, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Broadband & Connectivity Group, Broadcom. "We are committed to working with satellite providers, such as KT Skylife, to deliver the technology needed for a rich, detailed Ultra HD experience for a growing number of regional viewers."

"Broadcom's fully integrated Ultra HD solution combines dual Full-Band Capture front ends with eight demodulators and a 4K display in a single chip, providing greater ease of design and lower development cost," said Han Lee, CTO, KT Skylife. "As demand for Ultra HD content continues to grow at a rapid pace, we are thrilled to be the world's first to leverage Broadcom's single chip solution to deliver this unique and extraordinary viewing experience to our subscribers."
