ALi’s chipsets offer operators and device manufacturers high-performance and cost-effective solutions for next-generation STBs with the latest technologies. Its new MIPS CPU enabled chipset integrates a large-capacity L2 cache for optimum performance in HTML5-based applications. In addition, the SoC integrates ALi’s latest advanced security engine for CAS and DRM compliance as well as a refreshed user interface that enables developers to create rich applications on a range of modern operating systems optimised for DTVs and STBs. With support for H.265 high-efficiency video codec, the chipset is designed to efficiently receive HD and UHD video content over today’s limited bandwidth connections.
Jim Nicholas, Executive Vice President, MIPS Processor IP, Imagination, commented: “MIPS CPUs are at the heart of many of today’s most popular digital televisions and set-top boxes. We’ve been working closely with ALi to ensure they get the best possible performance from MIPS CPUs in their new chipset to ensure their customers achieve a rich multimedia experience at the lowest possible system cost and power consumption.”
“Thanks to the high-performance MIPS CPU, powerful computation capability, and a high degree of integration, our new chipset offers STB manufacturers a high-quality, cost-effective solution. By using Imagination’s ultra-efficient MIPS CPUs, ALi has designed a new H.265-capable SoC that will help broadcasters to maximise bandwidth utilisation and pay TV operators to increase profitability while also providing a better user experience for consumers,” added Daniel Huang, CEO, ALi Corporation.
Imagination offers a wide range of 32- and 64-bit MIPS CPUs for digital home applications.
