The new family member, the Galaxy G1-A control cabinet computer (96M1642-A), was specially developed for use in plant and machine construction in the industry automation sector. The Galaxy® G1-A is based on the energy-saving Intel® Atom™ N270 processor with a 1.6 GHz clock frequency and the Intel® 82945GSE chipset. The memory can be expanded to maximum 2 GB DDR2 RAM, 533 MHz.

For backup and the saving of user data, in addition to the internal 3.5 HD, a maximum of two 2.5 removable drives with front access can be installed as RAID unit. The Galaxy® G1-A also provides an internal Compact Flash (CF) socket.

The compact design of the device (149x260x280 mm) ensures a high level of integration capabilities. Because both the drives and the connections are located on the front side, the G1-A control cabinet is a particularly easily accessible industrial system. This is a significant advantage for the maintenance because it permits fast access to the components. Furthermore, the Galaxy® System G1-A provides an internal mini-PCI-Express x1 slot and four free PCI slots or three free PCI slots and a PCI-Express x1 slot for accepting a wide range of plug-in cards. This means the switchgear cabinet computer can be easily expanded with all common supplementary modules for CAN-bus, fieldbus (LON, Profibus, Interbus) and with various customer-specific control cards.

Thanks to its robust construction, the control cabinet system can be used in the harsh industrial environment. The operational areas range from simple controlling and monitoring through to the complex control of various automation processes for production plants.

The computer provides adequate interfaces, such as eight USB 2.0 ports, whereby six are available externally and two internally. The Intel® 82562ET 10/100 Base-TX LAN interface and the faster Intel® 82574L 1000 Base-T LAN interface (PCIe) are implemented as standard. DVI, VGA and an internal dual-channel LVDS are provided as graphical interfaces. The maximum resolution at the 75 Hz sampling rate is 2048 x 1536 pixels.

An internal 180 W power pack with 100 - 240 V input voltage or, optionally, a 200 W power pack with +24 V DC AC input voltage provide the electrical power. As an option, the system is available with wireless LAN that, for example, allows individual systems in the machine park to be controlled user-friendly by wireless. The G1-A has a sophisticated ventilation system with two 8-cm regulated system fans and is designed for operation in the 0° to +50° C temperature range. DSM provides a two-year warranty for the control cabinet system.
