Toshiba introduces wireless LAN SDHC memory cards
Toshiba has today announced its next-generation FlashAir wireless LAN SD cards, offering increased capacity and enhanced wireless functionality. The latest 16GB FlashAir offers double card capacity, enables easy and flexible sharing of photos, and operates at speeds that reduce data transfer time by 30 per cent.
Digital cameras have achieved immense popularity, and users want a quick and easy way to share photographs with friends and to transfer them to online storage services, social media and other devices. Toshiba’s FlashAir SD cards were the first to answer that need by embedding wireless LAN functionality into an SD card and support peer-to-peer transfers.
Photographs and movies stored on the wireless memory cards can now be accessed from mobile devices running both iOS and Android with apps available to download from the iTunes app store and GooglePlay.
Connecting to FlashAir is now easier than ever, and the card owner can restrict and allow which photos to share. The WLAN SD card incorporates industry standard wireless networking safety features to ensure that unauthorised access is blocked.
Toshiba has also launched the “FlashAir Developers Website” to assist developers of apps and services for FlashAir. The website features application programming interface information for enabling transfers of files stored on FlashAir cards to Wi-Fi devices. It also provides tutorials and sample codes for developing apps, an extensive list of FAQs, and a developer’s forum.
