Phaedrus Systems is launching emSSL, a ground-up implementation of secure sockets that are the backbone of secure communications on the internet today. Written by Segger Microcontroller to run effortlessly on single-chip embedded devices, emSSL integrates seamlessly with Segger's embOS/IP or, alternatively, any IP stack that supports plain sockets, or any bidirectional communications channel.

SSL/TLS is a must-have in nearly every application which is connected to the Internet. Products of the IoT, smart grid or home automation markets benefit from securing their communication.

emSSL supports TLS version 1, 1.1, and 1.2 out of the box and provides modern cypher suites that offer robust authentication, confidentiality, message integrity, and forward secrecy. Whilst being compact, it is also highly efficient in terms of RAM, ROM, and processor load. emSSL's highly flexible and straightforward configuration targets small devices by linking only what’s necessary, and at the same time avoids a sea of pre-processor defines that drown other source code products.

emSSL is delivered as a set of source files, for complete transparency, ready to integrate into customer applications, and includes full documentation.

“Increasingly security is an important feature of embedded systems, moving from industrial into consumer products,” said Chris Hills, CTO, Phaedrus Systems. “With emSSL Segger is further strengthening the emSecure digital signature suite.”
