DSL gateway device enables Gigabit-class services to home

Global telephone companies will be able to deliver Gigabit-class services to subscribers with Broadcom’s G.fast capabilities for its BCM63138 gateway SoC. The new G.fast digital subscriber line (DSL) standard, capable of supporting data rates in excess of 1Gbps with 106 MHz spectrum augments Broadcom’s telecom access portfolio.

Broadcom’s BCM63138 high-performance device with G.fast for home gateways complements the new BCM65200/900 central office (CO) family of SoCs and further extends Broadcom’s broadband carrier access portfolio, including ADSL/VDSL/Vectoring, Gigabit Ethernet and enhanced LTE. Broadcom is showcasing its end-to-end DSL solutions at Broadband World Forum in Amsterdam.

The BCM63138 also supports Gigabit dual-band concurrent Wi-Fi, multiport Gigabit Ethernet and multiline VoIP, allowing residential customers to experience the highest LAN data rates throughout the entire home. Utilising a 1 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor plus additional offload engines and dedicated routing accelerator, Broadcom’s BCM63138 maximises the capabilities offered by high-end Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) devices such as home gateways.

The device also fulfills a growing residential customer demand for high-end Networked Attached Storage (NAS) with support for high performance NAS and hard drive connectivity and extends the deployment longevity of CPE equipment.
