Brainboxes expands it’s uPCI range with RS232 Opto Isolation cards

Brainboxes continues to expand its range, meeting customer specific demands. The latest cards in the range provide four RS232 serial ports that are Opto Isolated. They are launching two variants of the cards – 4 port RS232 with 4 lines Opto Isolated (TxD, RxD, RTS and CTS) available in low profile and standard height formats and a lower cost option that has 2 lines per port Opto Isolated. This range of products are compatible with desktop and server PCs and most suitable for those in an Industrial Environment.

The UC-049 has 4 optically isolated lines on each of its 4 RS232 ports. Data lines TxD & RxD and handshake line RTS & CTS pass through an 1kV optically isolated barrier that provides extra protection to the host PC in the event high voltages being generated on the serial device side. Large spikes or transients surges are prevented from damaging the host PC since there is no galvanic connection (no current flow) between the serial equipment and the PC. Hazards such as ground loops or other causes of high potential differences between devices will not damage the PC.

These products are ideal for rugged industrial environments like garage workshops where automotive tests are being conducted as well as general repair work involving high current devices like welding equipment. The full uPCI range comprises Standard Height and Low Profile versions of 1, 2, 3, 4 & 8 Port variants in RS232 and 1, 2 & 4 Port RS422/485, Opto Isolated and parallel port versions also available. Cards are supplied with an installation CD including manual, Microsoft signed drivers & utilities.
