Both versions have USB, RS232 and RS232/422/485 ports as standard. Additional capability is provided through modular expansion cards that interface into one of three expansion slots in the unit. Pluggable boards provide PCI Express, USB3.0, 4-channel video capture, TV tuner, a parallel port and additional RS232 and RS232/422/485 serial ports as required. The Intel-based unit also features a USB dongle interface to give access to a further selection of functions such as GPS, FM radio, Z-Wave home automation controls and Zigbee short-range RF communications and control.
The AMD-powered version is based on the 780E chipset and addresses up to 4GB of RAM, the Intel N270 unit has the 945GSE chipset supporting up to 2GB of RAM and a SATA interface enables local mass storage. Power is from an external 12VDC source.
