Offering long distance communication over copper wires, the ED3101 rugged Ethernet extender has been introduced by Amplicon. Supporting speeds of up to 50Mbps at a distance of 300m and 1Mbps at 1900m, the Ethernet extender features plug-and-play installation using existing copper twisted-pair infrastructure to connect Ethernet devices and networks at high speeds over long distances.

Used in pairs or in conjunction with an ED3141, a hardened version for harsh environments, the ED3101 is suited for systems that require an office grade device at the central location and a hardened extender for field installation. The Ethernet extender uses the data link layer to pass higher-layer protocols including VLAN tagging, multicast addressing and industrial fieldbus protocols such as MODBUS/TCP and PROFINET IO.

Featuring ten speed indicator LEDs providing real-time data rate display, the Ethernet extender supports chassis system installation for easy management and power redundancy. The device is supplied with a power supply, single Ethernet port and a configuration DIP switch which is used to configure where the extender is located (local or remote). According to Amplicon, the ED3101 is easy to use and cost effective.

Operating over a temperature range from -20 to +60°C, the ED3101 is supplied in an 80.3x109.2x23.8mm aluminium case weighing 150g.
