Movea, the global leader in motion-sensing technology, has announced another customer for its newly launched MotionIC™ platform that enables customers to easily and quickly add motion intelligence to their products to enhance the user experience. 4MOD Technology is using Movea’s motion sensing and control technologies in its new range of ‘MOOS’ remote controls and will be demonstrating them on stand IP511 in the IPTV Hall at IBC 2010 in Amsterdam.
“Adding Movea’s MotionIC technology takes these remotes to the next level of user interaction,” said Laurent Stéphan, CEO of 4MOD Technology. “The fine pointer control and in-air operation makes them perfect controls for the next generation of highly interactive, home entertainment systems. Movea’s leadership in motion science makes them the logical choice for a one stop shop for all aspects of motion technology.”

Sam Guilaumé, CEO of Movea, added, “4Mod is known for their innovative and high quality product designs. They develop for market leaders and we are proud that they have chosen the MotionIC platform for their next generation of groundbreaking remote controls. Movea’s MotionIC gives customers the implementation flexibility to choose what they need: chips and chipsets, SmartMotion firmware, as well as API’s and developer kits. MotionIC enabled us to provide 4MOD with precisely the motion solution that they required and they were able to get up and running quickly. We have twenty years of experience and millions of shipped products behind us that ensure that we can deliver best in class performance for motion intelligence and a rapid time to market as all aspects of MotionIC are already thoroughly field tested.”

Cable TV providers are challenged to keep and grow subscribership as consumers start to access their home entertainment by using a PC connected to their large screen TV to access high definition content via broadband. The drawback is that the user has to access content from a variety of sites. In response to this, Cable TV companies are now developing next generation user interfaces to gather this content into one place along with their subscription services to provide easy access and retain customers and create new revenue streams such as motion driven gaming to increase ARPU. Key to this is having motion driven User Interfaces (UIs) to provide an easy means to navigate around the screen. Such a service will be launched by a leading European service provider in Q4 2010 that will use a new 4MOD remote that is motion enabled by Movea.

SmartMotion by Movea solutions are built on top of the MotionIC platform which includes: chips and chipsets, SmartMotion firmware, software APIs, developer kits, and an IP portfolio that will enable OEM’s, STB suppliers and Service Providers to rapidly adopt and integrate up to nine axes of motion sensing and control into their product solutions. A major market focus is motion control remote solutions for the PayTV industry, Set Top Box (STB) market and Digital TV markets where Movea’s award-winning, motion-sensing technology adds new levels of interactivity and ease-of-use, from having brought more than three million Air Mouse™ units to market under their Gyration brand of CE products.
