Waterproof connector reduces battery charging design

Yokowo’s TB series of waterproof blade and receptacle connectors eliminate the need for a sealing structure or moulding on the end product.

This enables a faster design cycle with easier implementation and lower manufacturing costs.

Designed for rugged battery charging applications such as tablet PCs, data collection terminals or drones, Yokowo’s TBR and TBP Series connectors offer IPX7 ingress protection. With the IPX7 waterproof rating (submerged in 1m of water for 30 minutes), the connectors protect devices and batteries from water ingress damage to the internal electronic components.

Utilising potting and rubber sheets for sealing, the contacts are isolated to prevent a short circuit between adjacent contacts. The receptacle connector’s dual-beam floating contact design provides 6-axis misalignment compensation able to absorb misalignments of +/-0.3mm. The two-way insertion brings a high degree of design flexibility for engineers. Additionally, the floating contact design absorbs shock and vibrations enabling a steady and secure power connection. Suitable for SMT and reflow soldering, the contacts feature a 3A current rating and 50mΩ contact resistance with 2,000 mating cycles.

“The waterproof capability of these connectors combined with the floating contact design adds a level of design flexibility and cost savings for OEMs involved in rugged applications,” said Yusuke Fujioka, Product Sales Manager for Yokowo.
