USB jack ‘world’s first’ to integrate EMC filter

A USB 2.0 type A jack, claimed to be the world’s first USB jack with an integrated EMC filter and ESD protection, has been released by Würth Elektronik eiSos. The WE-EPLE USB jack has the same dimensions as, and is pad-compatible, with most conventional USB jacks. Existing designs can be quickly upgraded to EMC-compatible designs.

While being almost invisible for the signal lines, the integrated EMC filter removes broadband interference on voltage and signal lines. The USB jack provides VCC filter impedance above 100Ω in the 20MHz range, in excess of 1GHz. Above 250Ω, common-mode suppression at 240MHz is offered. At 10V at level 4 ESD pulses with 15kV, ESD suppression is provided.
