Tyco Electronics has announced the AMP NETCONNECT AMP-TWIST 6AS RJ45 connector. The AMP-TWIST 6AS SL Jack offers 600 MHz performance and exceeds the upcoming Category 6A component performance specification of the global cabling standard ISO/IEC 11801 amendment 2. The AMP-TWIST 6AS SL Jack is the key component of the new AMP NETCONNECT XGA cabling system.
The new connecting hardware forms part of the AMP-TWIST connector family. It features one of the fastest termination technologies in the industry, allowing termination of shielded cabling in less time than is normally required for unshielded connecting hardware.

The AMP NETCONNECT Engineering Department created this new connector by using the latest electrical modelling technology and a complex PCB design, resulting in a connector that not only meets the minimum requirements for the category 6A component specification as defined by ISO/IEC, IEC, CENELEC and TIA/EIA, but even exceeds these relevant international and regional standards.

Josep Sanabra, EMEA Engineering Manager for the AMP CONNECT Business Unit of Tyco Electronics, comments: “This new connector design stretches the possible reach of RJ45 connectors to its maximum, as the RJ45 connector was originally designed to transfer signals at only 3 MHz. The new AMP-TWIST 6AS connector has been designed to transfer 600 MHz, which is 200 times more than the original design of the connector.”

The AMP-TWIST 6AS connector gives the customer many advantages with regard to security of investment, as this connector meets the upcoming standards for Class EA and Category 6A and accepts any Category 6A patch cord, while still maintaining high system performance. By using the latest Tyco Electronics re-embedding technology, developed for Category 6A connecting hardware, the Tyco Electronics engineering team has made the difference between laboratory measurement and field measurement much smaller than with any of its previous categories of connecting hardware. This gives the installer confidence that, when installing an XGA cabling system using the AMP-TWIST 6AS connector, the final installation will meet all cabling system requirements for Class EA.

In conjunction with the release of the AMP-TWIST 6AS connector, a full range of Category 6A patch cords has been released, allowing the user to configure a standard compliant Class EA system according ISO/IEC 11801.

By exceeding the minimum requirements for connecting hardware as specified in IEC 60603-7-51, the new XGA system allows the user to configure very short links and channels, while still meeting the requirements for transmitting 10GBASE-T. This is a clear advantage for server rooms and data centres, where short links are often used.

The new AMP-TWIST 6AS connector is significantly smaller than any previous Category 6 connector, allowing it to fit into a huge variety of global faceplates and patch panels, while at the same time being compatible with all AMP NETCONNECT XG patch panels and faceplates.

At their release, the AMP-TWIST 6AS connector and patch cords are ready for integration into the AMP NETCONNECT AMPTRAC intelligent infrastructure management program, allowing for full intelligent management of the cabling infrastructure.
