Tyco releases new card edge power connector

Tyco Electronics has announced a high-current, printed-circuit board edge connector with a current rating of 160 amps per linear inch—which represents a 30 percent increase in current density of compared to existing power edge connectors. The SEC-II power connector is an improved version of the existing SEC line, offering improvements in contact design for efficient current transfer and a ventilated housing to keep contacts cool.

“The SEC-II power connector combines the latest in efficient power contact designs, along with thermal dissipation benefits, to help set a new standard in card edge power delivery,” says Mike Blanchfield, global product manager for Tyco Electronics’ power interconnects.

In addition, the AC and DC contact designs maximize the current carrying capacity for use in AC/DC power supplies. The SEC-II power connector is available in both vertical and right angle configurations.
