SSMA connector performs in high vibration environments

An SSMA connector, claimed to perform in high vibration environments, has been developed by Aviel for a military aerospace manufacturer. The manufacturer required a connector with termination onto a 0.085″ semi-rigid cable, chassis mounting, a SSMA interface and an operating frequency of up to 26Ghz. A standard chassis mount SSMA connector meets these requirements, but does not perform in a high vibration environment.

Aviel’s connector has a floating body and pin that allow both axial and radial movement while maintaining an operating frequency of up to 26Ghz. To ensure that it performs in a high vibration environment, the company have designed the connector so that the pin movement is independent of the body.

Also contributing to the connectors performance in a high vibration environment are the materials used to manufacture it: 303 stainless steel for the body, beryllium copper with MIL-STD gold plating for the contact and Elgiloy Cobalt-Chromium-nickel non-magnetic alloy for the springs.
