Hirose has expanded its hybrid FPC-to-board connector family to include a multi-power version that supports high power capacity in a compact, space-saving design.
The BK11 Series multi-power hybrid FPC-to-board connector is equipped with two main power contacts supporting 4A per pin, four sub-power contacts supporting 2.5A per pin, and 10 signal contacts. By reducing the number of signal contacts, the BK11 helps save up to 46% of mounting space compared to conventional hybrid connectors.
With a 0.35mm pitch, 1.9mm width, 5.33mm length, and 0.6mm stacking height, the BK11 Series enables OEMs to reduce the size of portable devices without sacrificing performance.
The BK11 Series offers selectable power contact usage, providing design flexibility for designers of smartphones, wireless earbuds, smart watches and other wearables. The BK11 power contacts can be configured as:
- 4A x 2 positions plus 2.5A x 4 positions
- 8A x 2 positions
The FPC-to-board connector features a fully armoured design that covers both ends of the housing with metal for enhanced robustness and a significant reduction in the risk of housing damage from misalignment when mating. A wide self-alignment range of ±0.32mm (pitch direction) and ±0.23mm (width direction) simplifies mating operation. Designed for pick and place mounting, the BK11 Series provides production time and cost savings.
“The multi-power hybrid BK11 Series offers enhanced features and capabilities that enable end-devices to be smaller, lighter, and more reliable,” said Pete Lais, AVP of Product Management for Hirose Electric Americas. “Adapting to various power circuit designs, the BK11 Series simplifies layout and allows greater flexibility for component placement, such as USB ports, supporting a wide range of product architectures and form factors.”
The compact BK11 Series also features a moulded plug and receptacle design that helps prevent solder wicking, further improving manufacturing reliability.
