Aspen Electronics has a range of micro-miniature RF switching connectors, designed specifically for appliances operating in wireless networks. The connectors switch automatically from an internal circuit to an external circuit when mated. This makes them ideal for applications such as portable computers, enabling the system to take immediate advantage of a higher gain external antenna, by switching automatically from the internal antenna when connected.
Developed and manufactured in the US by Delta Electronics Manufacturing Corporation, the connectors are compatible with all MC-Card and MMCX plugs.
The frequency range is DC to 3GHz when switched to internal circuits and DC to 8.5GHz when switched to external circuits. Additional electrical specifications include: nominal impedance of 50ohms; voltage rating (VRMSmax) of 100V (MC-Card) and 170V (MMCX); dielectric withstanding voltage of 250mV (MC-Card) and 500mV (MMCX); contact resistance of 5mohms (centre) and 3mohms (outer); and insulation resistance of 500Mohms (max).

Mechanical characteristics include a mating force of 7.0N max, unmating force of 9.0N min, and durability of 5000 cycles. The connectors are designed to be robust and undergo humidity, salt spray, shock and vibration testing. Operating temperature range is –20 to +80oC.

These high quality connectors are manufactured with teflon insulators, gold plated over beryllium copper contacts and stainless steel springs. Overall dimensions of the MC-Card connectors are 12.2 x 6.4mm and 11.3 x 6.4mm for the MMCX parts.

The receptacles are designed for card-edge surface mounting, and are available either in bulk or in tape-and-reel packaging with 500 to 1400 devices per reel.
