JAE Europe has introduced 20-way and 32-way surface-mount connectors to its 2.2mm-pitch MX34 range, allowing smaller automotive electronic modules that require fewer assembly processes to enable faster production and lower unit costs.
The new MX34R with surface-mount contacts has a 3A current rating and provides a compact interconnect solution to enable miniaturisation of cabin-mounted modules such as in-car entertainment systems, rain sensors and alarm systems. Enhancements to the connectors include a PPS resin body to withstand reflow soldering temperatures, as well as visible terminals on both sides of the connector to aid inspection of reflowed solder joints. Hold-downs on both sides provide convenient board fixing, saving screw-mounting of the connector.

The connectors feature straight pin headers, and allow mating with standard MX34 cable-mount sockets.

The MX34R series matches mechanical and electrical parameters of the original MX34 connectors, with box-section pin-headers, high-quality plating, 50 mating-cycles durability, 5mΩ contact resistance, and insulation resistance greater than 100MΩ. The operating temperature range of –40°C to +85°C exceeds requirements for in-cabin systems and most body-mounted applications.
