An alliance between IMS Connector Systems and Telegärtner has resulted in a new connector standard that provides a locking, push-pull alternative to traditional SMA and QMA connectors. The new standard, known as QLS (Quick Lock Standard), is the result of a licensing agreement between IMS and Telegärtner. This agreement covers the development, production and distribution of connectors that are 100% compatible with and offer significant advantages over both SMA and QMA connectors.

Both QMA and QLS connectors have the main advantage over the SMA standard in that, as they are push-pull types, they do not require torque spanner for fitting and therefore can be more densely packed. The QLS connectors have the advantage over QMA in that they have a higher contact force of 200N compared with 60N providing improved electrical characteristics in terms of intermodulation, return loss and contact reliability. Connector life is also doubled from 100 to 200 mating cycles and a unique, secure locking mechanism means accidental disconnection by pulling on cable is virtually impossible.

QLS connectors have an insertion force of 30N and a withdrawal force of 20N. Impedance is 50 ohm, working voltage less than 500V at 50Hz and the frequency range up to 6 GHz.
