Hypertac has launched its next generation of miniature connectors designed for high-speed data, audio and video transmission in demanding, mission critical conditions. Used in the Future Soldier project, the second generation of SnapTac connectors now offers improved functionality and performance in extreme environments by increasing the number of features, hardware coding options, termination styles and protection measures.
The new range of SnapTac connectors allow for increased versatility when developing lightweight, compact, wearable EMI shielded electronic systems for applications including communication, identification / recognition, and other tasks critical to military personnel. High quality data transmission is achieved through a combination of upgraded commercial Ethernet, USB, IEEE 1394 interconnect to Mil Spec performance.

The range also delivers the benefits synonymous with the original range of StapTac connectors: exceptional signal integrity, IP67 sealing and the robustness to meet the demanding specification required in military use.

The circular and rectangular connector plugs are now available in two versions, with and without over-moulding, following requests for both turn-key solutions and easy integration into existing designs.

The circular 7, 13 and 19 way rack and panel receptacle is now also available in a solder cup termination style, in addition to the original dip solder. An optional cap, to protect the connector from particulates such as dust, sand or mud when not in use, is also available. The rectangular 12 and 21 way connectors are now available with rear panel mounting to allow easy assembly, cabling and maintenance.

Several additional hardware coding options are also offered to avoid mismatching in equipment with several connectors ensuring the mating and unmating process in field operations is both simple and quick.

The SnapTac connectors incorporate full line EMI shielding and provide for high robustness throughout their lifetime. They also provide an inherent self-cleaning wiping action and the nature of the electrical contacts substantially reduces contact fretting for increased reliability.

The SnapTac connectors are based on Hypertac HyperSpring® contact technology, which combines the company’s high reliability hyperboloid contact with the mechanical features of a spring-loaded contact, to produce interconnections with improved signal integrity and proven parametric stability over time.
