A range of Glow-Wire compliant RAST 2.5 Wire-to-Wire Headers has been introduced by Molex. These connectors deliver power and cost efficiency through an interface that can be terminated and cross-mated with any existing RAST infrastructure. Available in panel mount and flying header versions, the connectors are suitable for power and signal applications carrying up to 4.0A (32V).

“As a manufacturer of RAST connectors for more than 15 years, Molex supplies some of the largest home appliance OEMs in the world,” said Diarmuid Cullinan, Global Product Manager, Molex. “The new RAST 2.5 Wire-to-Wire Headers bring to the market a proven source from a company with an established global footprint - helping customers to meet their increased demand to support sub-assembly in Far East manufacturing locations, as well as assembly in Europe and the US. A third market trend is the growing popularity of RAST connectors in the automotive industry; where the high vibration environment demands a high retention force.”

Suitable for 2.0A applications in temperatures between -20 to 120°C, these connectors are rated for higher loads of up to 4.0A (-20 to 60°C). The insulation body material is polyamide (PA6) and variants accept single wires of a diameter between 0.22-0.38mm2 on 2.5 or 5mm pitch (2 to 15 pole), as well as 0.50mm2 on 5mm pitch (2 to 9 pole). Insulation resistance of at least 10MΩ is maintained. The active latch design secures mated connectors with an IDT retention force of 30N, surpassing the high vibration requirements of the automotive industry. Multiple coding and keying options help prevent mis-mating during assembly.

As with all RAST connectors from Molex, these meet the requirements of the Glow-Wire standard (IEC / BS EN 60695-2), having been tested for flammability at 750ºC and 850ºC. In addition, they are UL (UL 1977), CSA (C22.2 NO. 182.3-M1987) and VDE certified, confirming their performance, safety and material specifications.
