Hirose has launched a high-current board-to-board connector ideally suited for harsh environment applications including internal automotive powertrain and ECU connections.

Supporting up to 25A per pin, the two-pin FX31 Series combines high-vibration resistance with high-heat resistance up to 125℃ to deliver reliable performance in severe environmental conditions.

Featuring a floating contact structure, the FX31 Series offers a wide displacement absorption range of ±0.5mm in the XY direction and ±1.5mm in the Z direction. Floating connectors minimise mechanical stress on solder joints and contacts, reducing the risk of solder cracks, contact buckling, and other failures. This capability is especially valuable in automated or high-speed manufacturing, where perfect alignment is difficult to achieve, and in designs requiring multiple connectors between boards.

Reducing soldering and screw-fastening workloads, the FX31 Series includes a unique design that permits direct busbar insertion. This supports higher-density layouts while reducing overall system size.

“Part of the FunctionMax Family of products, the FX31 Series features a floating contact design that supports automated assembly and reduces the need for highly precise manual alignment, improving production efficiency and yield,” said Pete Lais, AVP of Product Management for Hirose Electric Americas. “Traditionally, board-to-board connectors have not been widely used in automotive powertrains due to high-heat, vibration and space challenges. The FX31 Series combines vibration isolation with high-heat capability to overcome these issues and ensure high reliability in automotive powertrain applications.”

The two-pin FX31 Series has a pitch of 9.5mm and a 20mm stacking height.
